The DB12 Volante keeps the technical core of the DB12 coupe, with the `V8 4.0` `M177` at `680 hp` and later `700 hp` in `S` form, but the challenge changes completely once that package sits in a large convertible. This is no longer only about containing a powerful modern GT; it is about preserving the integrity of a very quick open car. Next to a Porsche 911 Cabriolet, the Aston remains broader, more theatrical and more focused on rapid touring than on compact sports-car sharpness.
Aston Martin put real effort into stiffness, roof integration and the way the active systems work together so the Volante would not feel heavy or loose. That works only when tyres, alignment, adaptive damping and the electronic differential are all exactly where they should be. On this generation, even a small calibration drift or poor tyre wear pattern can spoil the whole impression very quickly.
