The second SRX turns decisively away from the singular architecture of the first and becomes a more readable, more consensual and far more commercially accessible premium crossover. Cadillac is targeting buyers who want comfort, image and equipment without seeking a particularly sporty character. In everyday use it sits closer to a Lexus RX or a family premium SUV focused on road ease than to any vehicle with a strong mechanical personality.
The 2.8T, 3.0 V6 LF1 and later 3.6 V6 LFX engines change mostly the level of performance and running costs, with a 6-speed automatic common to most versions. The 2.8T demands genuine attention to cooling, forced induction and hose condition, while the naturally aspirated V6s mainly require monitoring of ignition, temperature and oil-change quality. On this SRX, the all-wheel drive and gearbox smoothness count almost as much as the engine itself.
