The second MDX moved up with a stronger 3.7 V6, SH-AWD and a more premium brief. It feels more serious and more capable than the first car, but it is also heavier and less tolerant of neglected fluids, deferred belt service and tired suspension parts.
A good MDX II should feel smooth from engine to rear axle, with no lazy shifts, no driveline grumble and no cooling drama. Poor cars betray themselves through gearbox heat issues, overdue timing-belt work and rear differential servicing that was skipped because the SUV still seemed to drive normally.
