Introduced in 1996, the DB7 Volante marked the return of a more accessible open Aston Martin than the highly exclusive cars that came before it. It starts with the supercharged straight-six, then later benefits from the V12 Vantage engine. That split personality is exactly what makes the model interesting: first a supple and refined British convertible, then a much more serious open GT able to challenge a Mercedes-Benz SL in a very different way.

The blown six-cylinder keeps a genuine nineties charm, with progressive delivery and servicing costs that are less intimidating than those of a V12. The Vantage versions, by contrast, turn the Volante into a very serious convertible, heavier over the nose but much richer in engine response. Whatever the engine, roof quality, seal condition and the rigidity you feel on the road are decisive on this model.
