Audi A6 C4 (1995-1997)

Launched in 1994, the `Audi A6 C4` was not an all-new Audi but the very mature continuation of the `Audi 100 C4`, now renamed to match the brand's future range logic. It sat against cars such as the BMW 5 Series E34 with a less sporting but very solid long-distance character. Today it appeals to buyers who want straightforward mechanicals, real old-Audi build quality and a big saloon whose life can still be understood through paperwork and condition.

The market mainly revolves around the `2.6 V6`, `2.8 V6`, `1.9 TDI` and especially the excellent five-cylinder `2.5 TDI AEL` in `115` and later `140 hp` form. `quattro` already exists, as do `ZF` automatics on several versions, but many of the best cars are still manuals. The five-cylinder diesel is the star if you want huge mileage potential, while the petrol `V6` cars need a much stricter reading of cooling health, gasket leaks and timing-belt history.
