Audi A6 C5 (1997-2005)

Launched in 1997, the `Audi A6 C5` was the first A6 designed fully as such, with its own platform, very clean aerodynamics and a real leap in perceived quality. It went straight after the BMW 5 Series E39 with less dynamic edge but a convincing blend of comfort, finish and everyday versatility. This is the generation that permanently established Audi as a premium long-distance brand, especially in `Avant` form and later as the `allroad`.

Most cars revolve around the `1.8 T`, `2.4 V6`, `2.8 V6`, `1.9 TDI` and `2.5 TDI V6`, with `quattro`, `Tiptronic` or `Multitronic` depending on engine and transmission layout. The `1.9 TDI` remains the simplest high-mileage choice, while the `2.5 TDI` gives the C5 more torque and a more expensive feel but demands strict standards on injection, camshaft wear and service history.
