Launched in `2016`, the Audi `R8 II Spyder 4S` takes the `R8 II` recipe and opens it to the sky with an even more demonstrative pleasure-car role. Against a Cabriolet or Targa Porsche 911, it answers with a unique naturally aspirated `V10` and a far more theatrical presence. On the used market, though, it still has to be followed like any other supercar: the appeal of the open body must never hide the real level of cost and complexity.
The market centres on the `540 hp 5.2 FSI V10 quattro` and then the `610 hp V10 plus`, always with the `S tronic`. That means the same concerns as the coupe for engine, gearbox, brakes, tyres, alignment and cooling, but with the added questions of the electric roof, its seals, its mechanism and the inherent rigidity limits of an open body. A beautiful shape and a beautiful cabin do not erase poor storage or weak maintenance.
