Launched at the end of 2020 for the 2021 model year, the BMW M3 G80 pushes the F80 logic even further: more stiffness, more grip, more electronics and a now openly versatile brief. Against a contemporary Mercedes C-Class AMG, it no longer relies only on the engine, but on the whole chassis-transmission-assistance package. It is the first M3 where you can genuinely choose between pure rear-wheel drive and `M xDrive` depending on version.
The `S58B30` makes `480 hp` in manual form, `510 hp` as a `Competition`, then `550 hp` in the `M3 CS`. The `8-speed M Steptronic` becomes central to the range, and the arrival of `xDrive` changes the maintenance reading of the car. On this generation, cooling, lubrication, software updates, the operation of the driver aids, heavily loaded brakes and the car's overall coherence at speed all need close attention. The M3 G80 is very complete, but much less tolerant of approximation than an older M3.
