Launched in 2005, the V8 Vantage marks a major turning point for Aston Martin: for the first time in a long while, the brand offered a more compact, more accessible model clearly aimed at driving enjoyment. With its naturally aspirated `4.3-litre V8` and tightly drawn shape, it targeted buyers who were also looking at a Porsche 911 but wanted more presence and a more handmade atmosphere.
The car won people over immediately with its low seating position, heavy steering, rear transaxle layout and a V8 note with a very specific tone. Early cars still require method. `Sportshift` is not as easygoing as a real automatic, the clutch wears if the car spent a lot of time in traffic, and the running gear reflects servicing quality straight away. It is a very appealing sports car, but not one to buy only on styling emotion.
