Launched in 2018, the Audi Q8 `4M` takes the `MLB evo` base of Audi's big SUV and gives it a lower, more image-led and more style-focused reading. Against the BMW X5 or, more directly in spirit, the `X6`, it sells premium image and grand-touring comfort more than outright practicality. That is exactly why you have to be strict when buying one: a beautiful Q8 with weak maintenance follow-up becomes a very expensive project very quickly.
Used stock mainly revolves around the `45 TDI`, `50 TDI`, `55 TFSI`, then the `55 TFSI e` and `60 TFSI e` plug-in hybrids, nearly always paired with the `8-speed tiptronic` and `quattro`. Depending on version, the Q8 adds `48 V`, air suspension, rear-wheel steering, very large wheels and dense comfort electronics. It can feel remarkably coherent on the road, but the mix of weight, tyres, electronics and plug-in complexity on some versions demands a real maintenance record.
