Launched in late 2017, the BMW i8 Roadster (I15) takes the coupé formula and turns it into something more emotional and more exclusive. Against a Porsche 911 Cabriolet it is playing a different game: the appeal here comes from the carbon passenger cell, the plug-in hybrid layout, the quiet open-top running in electric mode and an architecture that still feels unlike anything else. As a roadster, the i8 becomes even more theatrical, but also more demanding on detail-led upkeep.
This version keeps the `B38K15T0` `1.5 turbo`, lifts combined output to `374 hp` and uses the `11.6 kWh` gross battery introduced with the facelift. The package remains technically dense: rear combustion engine, front electric module, hybrid all-wheel drive, complex software management and plenty of supporting systems to monitor. On a roadster, the electric roof, its mechanism, water sealing and associated comfort hardware must be added to the normal hybrid-system checks.
