Launched in `2008`, the `S3 Sportback 8PA` brings Audi's hot compact formula into a genuinely usable five-door body. Against a BMW 3 Series, it feels shorter, denser and often more versatile. On the used market it remains very tempting, but only if the engine and driveline base were maintained properly.
The range mainly revolves around the `2.0 TFSI` `EA113` in `CDLA` and `CDLC` form, with a manual gearbox or `S tronic` depending on the version, plus `Haldex`-type all-wheel drive. This package is known, effective and quick, but it needs a serious read of the high-pressure fuel pump cam follower, the turbo, the cooling system and the oil history. A good `S3 Sportback 8PA` should start cleanly, rev properly and stay coherent on four tyres of matching quality.
