For many buyers, the facelifted `GTC II` is the best compromise among the pre-hybrid open-top Continentals. It keeps the imposing charm of the big Bentley convertible, but with revised presentation, a cleaner interior finish and a more homogeneous overall feel. `W12`, `V8 S` and later `Supersports` versions show just how far this phase pushes the Bentley-convertible formula: a lot of mass, a lot of torque and, at the same time, genuine production maturity.
Against a Maserati GranTurismo Convertible, the facelifted `GTC` is still heavier and more solemn, but it answers with remarkable insulation, a very well-matched `ZF 8` gearbox and a level of luxury that is hard to find elsewhere. This phase still has to be judged as a whole package. The roof, all-wheel drive, braking system, air suspension and comfort electronics must all remain coherent, because catch-up costs are immediately high on a poorly maintained car.
