Under the bonnet, the range is dominated by the 1.6 HDi 16V turbo diesel (75, 90 and 110 hp) alongside 1.6 16V and VTi petrol options. While manual gearboxes are robust, the optional EGS automated manual gearbox suffers from jerky actuator wear and expensive electronic clutch recalibrations, making the five-speed manual the sensible choice.
Preventive servicing on 1.6 HDi engines must strictly address the 1.6 HDi turbo oil feed banjo bolt filter: neglected oil changes cause injector blow-by carbon to clog the strainer and destroy the turbocharger. A timely timing belt kit renewal is crucial, while the diesel particulate filter (DPF) demands periodic motorway runs to prevent soot saturation.
