In 2003, Ford introduced the most comprehensive structural redesign in the Crown Victoria’s history, incorporating a hydroformed front chassis section, cast aluminium crossmembers and modern rack-and-pinion steering. Supported by regular Ford Crown Victoria maintenance, this facelifted generation delivered noticeably sharper handling and superior crash protection whilst preserving the classic body-on-frame Panther architecture and soothing long-distance ride comfort.
Powertrain duties continued with the refined 4.6 Modular 2-valve V8 paired with the updated 4R70E or heavy-duty 4R75W four-speed automatic transmission. Early 2003 models briefly retained issues with plastic intake manifold coolant crossover leaks before Ford standardise aluminium crossover reinforcements. Furthermore, watch for failing 4.6 Modular V8 timing chain tensioners, which present as distinct rattles on cold startup when oil pressure builds slowly.
