Launched in `2007`, the `S5 Coupe 8T` opens the `S` reading of the `A5`: a big `quattro` coupe that is quick, well finished and more `GT` than hard-edged sports car. Against a BMW 3 Series Coupe, it answers mainly with traction, long-distance composure and the appeal of a proper `V8`. On the used market it therefore has to be judged on its complete mechanical coherence, not on its soundtrack alone.
At the heart of this first phase is the naturally aspirated `354 hp 4.2 FSI V8 CAUA`, with all-wheel drive and either a manual gearbox or `tiptronic`. It remains a deeply likeable engine, but it demands tight oil servicing, a clean cold start, healthy cooling and an intake path that does not already feel badly loaded with deposits. On this nose-heavy coupe, the quality of the front axle, brakes and all four tyres matters almost as much as the engine itself.
