Launched in 2014, the BMW M4 Cabriolet F83 takes the F82 recipe and adds a folding hardtop, more weight and a different chassis reading. Against a same-era Porsche 911 Cabriolet, it plays less on absolute precision than on versatility and the ability to cover ground quickly for long periods, provided you accept a heavier, more complex and more expensive car to maintain properly.

The key engine remains the `S55` biturbo straight-six, with `431 hp` at launch and `450 hp` in `Competition` trim. The `7-speed M DCT` overwhelmingly dominates on this cabriolet, where it suits the GT-like character better than the manual. On an F83, you need to watch the engine, cooling, transmission, brakes, body rigidity and especially the entire folding-hardtop environment all at once. A good car should feel healthy both open and closed.
