Launched in late 2002, the Fiat Stilo Multi Wagon extended the compact platform into a cavernous, versatile estate car offering up to 1,480 litres of load capacity. Competing directly with the Ford Focus Estate and Vauxhall Astra Caravan, its practical dual-opening tailgate-featuring an independently opening rear glass screen-demands methodical Fiat Stilo maintenance to ensure that heavy family or commercial hauling has not overwhelmed its chassis.
Engine options were focused around the economical 1.6 16V and 1.8 16V petrol units and the resilient 1.9 JTD turbodiesel delivering 80 hp or 115 hp. The 1.9 JTD is ideally matched to estate duties, carrying cargo effortlessly when serviced with regular cambelt changes. Conversely, the 1.8 petrol engine requires strict monitoring of its variable valve timing variator and engine oil consumption.
