The facelifted BMW M5 E60 remains from 2007 to 2010 a proposition all of its own: a large M saloon driven by a high-revving naturally aspirated `V10`, far removed from the turbo M5s that followed. Against a same-era Mercedes C-Class AMG, it impresses through the way it climbs the rev range, its mechanical violence and its almost exotic character. The facelift sharpens the presentation, but changes nothing fundamental: this is an extraordinary car if you accept the level of commitment it demands.
The engine remains the `S85B50`, a `5.0 V10` with `507 hp`, usually paired with the `SMG III` automated gearbox. On this phase, rod bearings, throttle actuators, cooling, lubrication, ignition and the behaviour of the `SMG` all have to be read first. A healthy M5 E60 LCI still delivers a rare experience, but a poorly followed car can become a spending machine within months.
