Launched in 2014, the BMW M4 F82 replaces the M3 E92 coupé and changes philosophy completely. The naturally aspirated V8 disappears in favour of the `S55` biturbo straight-six, torquier, more efficient and much easier to make genuinely quick. Against a same-era Mercedes C-Class AMG Coupé, the M4 relies less on brute soundtrack than on chassis precision, traction and endurance, provided maintenance has genuinely kept up.
The heart of the range is the `S55B30T0` with `431 hp`, then `450 hp` with the `Competition Package`, followed by the `M4 CS` at `460 hp` and the very radical `M4 GTS` at `500 hp`. A `6-speed` manual exists, but many cars run the `7-speed M DCT`, more effective and often preferred on hard-driven examples. Cooling, intercoolers, oil-service history, ignition condition and coherent behaviour under load are therefore first-rank criteria.
