Introduced in 2005, the facelifted BMW 7 Series Saloon E65 softened Chris Bangle's controversial styling with restyled headlights, a wider rear track and an updated iDrive system featuring a dedicated Menu button. Mechanically revised and far better resolved than early models, it remains an impressive high-speed luxury saloon. Sustaining its refined composure requires methodical BMW 7 Series maintenance, focusing on engine oil seals and gearbox servicing.
The revised powertrain lineup included the smooth magnesium-block N52 straight-six (730i), upgraded N62B40 and N62B48 V8s (740i, 750i) and the torquey M57 diesel (730d). While more mature, the quad-cam N62 V8 still requires scrutiny for perished valve stem seals and coolant valley pipe leaks. The six-speed ZF 6HP automatic gearbox benefits substantially from preventative fluid and mechatronic sleeve renewals.
